
About the Language

The Banjaras (also known as Labana, Lambadi) are a historically nomadic trading community who may have origin in the Mewar region in Rajasthan. They speak a distinct language known as ‘banjara’ which is also called 'Gour Boli',‘Gormati’ or ‘Banjari’ in Madhya Pradesh and , ‘Lamani’ or ‘Lambadi’ in Rajasthan. It belongs to the Indo-European group of languages. The language has no script, it is either written in Devanagari or in the script of the local language such as Telugu or Kannada.
