
About the Language

Konkani is an Indo- Aryan language spoken in the western coastal region of India. It is the official language of Goa but is also spoken in other parts of India including in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Coastal region of Karnataka, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Dui. It is written in Devnagari, Roman, Kannada, Malayalam and Perso – Arabic scripts. The name Konkani comes from the word Konkan, which means the people of Konkan. The word Kona (कोण) means top of the mountain.
