ELKL-13

The 13th International Conference cum Workshop on Endangered and Lesser-Known Languages (ELKL-13) was held at Madurai Kamaraj University from 17–19 December 2025. The conference opened with an inaugural session, during which the Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. Alexander R. Coupe (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore). The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Gilvan Müller de Oliveira (Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC, Brazil).

On the occasion of the completion of ten years of the Society for Endangered and Lesser-Known Languages (SEL), a special felicitation was accorded to Prof. Panchanan Mohanty, Patron of SIL and Former Dean, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad.

A Dictionary-Making Workshop was conducted on the third day by Prof. Alexander R. Coupe and Prof. Umarani, focusing on practical aspects of lexicography and community-based language documentation.

The Anvita Abbi Award was conferred upon Rajitha Muthuswamy for her paper “Voices from the Past: Oral History, Identity Reclamation, and Revitalization of Paniya,” in recognition of her contribution to language revitalization and oral history documentation.
