ELKL –9

Elkl-9, the yearly conference of the SEL Society was successfully organized by the Centre for Endangered Languages, Tezpur University on 20th -21st Feb 2021. Forty-one interesting research papers were virtually presented in two parallel sessions on various smaller and endangered languages of North- East India by young scholars

A pre-conference workshop on “Developing an Orthography: Issues and Challenges” on February 19 was also organized by the CFEL. Michel Cahill from SIL, USA gave an enriching presentation on the topic ‘Orthography development for ethnic groups: A balancing act’ talking about the necessity and importance of orthography development for oral communities. Prof. Mayuree Thawornpat from RILCA, Mahidol University, Thailand was the other resource person.
