The Society for Endangered and Lesser-Known Languages (SEL) began its Yearly Lecture Series with an insightful lecture by Dr. Mary Haokip, Head, Department of Linguistics, Assam University, on “The Salient Linguistic Features of Kuki-Chin Languages”, held on 20 March. Dr. Haokip discussed the distinctive linguistic characteristics of the Kuki-Chin language group and highlighted their significance for understanding the linguistic diversity of Northeast India. The lecture provided valuable insights into the structure and diversity of these languages and was particularly useful for researchers working in the field of Tibeto-Burman linguistics. The session was followed by an engaging academic interaction with the participants. The lecture marked a meaningful beginning to SEL’s Yearly Lecture Series, aimed at providing opportunities for scholars and researchers to share knowledge on lesser-known and endangered languages.
