On 26th February 2019, we celebrated Mother Tongue Day in collaboration with Department of Linguistics, Lucknow University, Lucknow at the Seminar Hall of the Department. Around twenty-five young, enthusiastic speakers of Awadhi, Bundeli, Bhojpuri, Khari Boli, and Nepali were there to commemorate the occasion. Prof. K. Srikumar (Head, Dept. of Linguistics), a Malayali speaker, welcomed the SEL team and presented his views on the importance of Mother Tongue.

The reason and the objective of the formation of SEL society were explained by our President, Dr. Kavita Rastogi to the audience. She also informed that throughout the year SEL would organize several such activities to support UNESCO’s decision of celebrating 2019 as the ‘Year of Indigenous Languages’. Under the guidance of our active member, Dr. Sushma Goel, many students presented their ideas on the usage of Mother Tongue and performed using the same.
